Free Drag Racing PC Game!

The Match Race Madness "announcer screen" display.

Flash! Check out another online drag racing game HERE!

Last updated in April 2003... Sorry, we are working on a new online version but it's going be a while before we get it out... this one still works, but the drivers and performances are seven years old.

Is it really free? YES! Thousands of drag racing fans have received a FREE, fully functional Match Race Madness (MRM) drag racing simulation game! You can download it right here!

Sorry, the game won't work on Macintosh machines and may not work on Windows NT machines. BUT it has been tested successfully on Windows 3.1, 95, 98, ME, 2000, and XP!

What's MRM about?

Take on Larry Dixon, John Force, Jeg Coughlin, Shannon Jenkins, or anyone! We've updated the MRM computer fantasy simulation with over 2,000 cars and stars of the current drag racing season! MRM lets you create and field a "dream car" in the class of your choice to race against buddies or against any of the world's pro, semipro, exhibition, and quick sportsman racers.

Race at the national or divisional level at 300 quarter- or eighth-mile drag strips around the world. Completely authentic racer performances, track records, world records, and performance characteristics for each drag racing class. Extensive on-line help. Works on any IBM-compatible PC with 640K RAM.

NOTE: Not recommended for children under 12. MRM is not an arcade game. It is NOT a game like Burnout or Tantrum's NHRA game. It contains no graphics. Think of it as "fantasy league football for drag racing fans." It's fun, but you need some imagination and knowledge of the sport to get the most of out of it. Sorry, MACs are not supported and it may not work on Windows NT.

How do I get MRM?

Follow these easy steps to get your free Match Race Madness computer simulation! Read each step COMPLETELY before clicking on the link!

1. Click on the first link to download your game. When the computer asks to Open it or Save it to Disk, choose Save it to Disk. When the Save As box comes up, replace the filename (mrm) with the following: c:\madness\mrm.zip (you can copy and paste this into that box). Click Save

OK, go ahead and click...

2. The MRM game is compressed with the PKZIP utility. We also provide a link to the PKUNZIP utility. Click on the second link to download PKUNZIP. When the computer asks to Open it or Save it to Disk, choose Save it to Disk. When the Save As box comes up, ensure the filename says Pkunzip. Click Save.

(A word about E-mail privacy: I PROMISE I will not sell your email address to anyone else! If you send me your email address, the only thing you will get will be updates from THE DRAG RACING LIST -- PERIOD! Click here to see our official Privacy Policy

4. OK, you are ready to unzip, load, and play Match Race Madness! You should have both the MRM.ZIP and PKUNZIP.EXE files in the C:\MADNESS directory of your computer. You can use Windows Explorer to see this by clicking START, Programs, Windows Explorer. If the MRM.ZIP and PKUNZIP.EXE files are not in the C:\MADNESS directory, go back to step one and start over.

5. Click on the Windows START button, and click on RUN. In the OPEN box, type the following: C:\MADNESS\PKUNZIP MRM (you can just copy and paste it from here). Then click OK. A DOS box will appear and the Match Madness files will unzip. Close the DOS box by clicking the X in the upper right hand corner. You are ready to play!

How do I play Match Race Madness?

1. Click on the Windows START button, and click on RUN. In the OPEN box, type the following: C:\MADNESS\MRM (you can cut and paste it from here).

2. Now, cut a light and STAND ON IT!

How to do I create a Windows Shortcut to MRM so I don't have to use RUN?

Windows 95 and later: Click START, then click SETTINGS. Select the TASK BAR tab. Click 'Start Menu Programs.' Click ADD. Type c:\madness\mrm (or whatever path you chose during installation). Click NEXT. Select the Folder you want or select Desktop or Start Menu. Type 'MRM' or whatever you want to call it. Select the icon you want (the red race car is neat)! Click 'Finish,' then click OK. An MRM shortcut is ready for Windows!

Windows 3.1: Click on the Windows Group into which you want to add MRM (Games, perhaps). Click FILE, then click NEW. Select 'Program Item' (it should be selected already) and click OK. Enter MRM (or whatever you like) for the Description and enter MRM for the Command Line. Enter C:\MADNESS (or the disk and subdirectory you chose during installation) for the Working Directory then click OK. MRM is ready from Windows 3.1!

What shortcut keys can I use when running MRM?

Press F1 to get a game introduction.

Press F2 at any time during the game to get help for the screen you are on.

Press F3 to change your configuration settings.

Press Alt-S to toggle the sound on and off.

Press F10 to clear the screen (uh, NO boss, I was just working...)

CLICK HERE FOR COOL TIPS AND TRICKS!

I would love to hear your ideas for improving the game. I have several already, but I've had a tough time finding the time to implement them. Send an email to Game Improvements.

NOTE: A problem has been identified where MRM won't run from the DOS prompt on some older 386- or 486-type machines. The error message "not enough memory" is generated although ample memory actually exists to run the game. You can bypass the problem by running MRM from within Microsoft Windows. No problems have been experienced in this environment. MRM will not run on Mac machines and may not run on Windows NT machines. BUT, it has been tested successfully on Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, and XP!
