Two Unique Machines
Gene Mooneyham's 554 and Kenny
Ellis' 3-Wheeler
By Steve Gibbs
While going through some old family photos, my wife came across a
couple of rolls of 35-mm negatives.... Stuff I shot at San Gabriel
in mid 1962. Not great photography, but some pretty interesting
images. I have the first roll back, so here goes the first few.

Gene Mooneyham's 554 at San Gabriel 1962. Photo by Steve Gibbs
First shot is a little fuzzy, but had to include. Gene
Mooneyham's legendary "554" fuel coupe, driven by
"Jungle" Larry Faust. Definitely on my all time - top ten
favorite car list. It's neat to get a chance to see the push trucks
of the era. That's Mooneyham's '57 Ranchero on the left.

Second photo is Kenny Ellis in the original version of his
3-wheeler. Ewald inquired about this car recently...prior to my
knowing this shot existed. Corvair in background was the first new
car I ever owned. Leaked oil just like the rest of them...
