This is another kind of obscure guy, Durart Sartin. He was a
ranch foreman on the Chapman Ranch in South Texas. He held the AHRA
F/Fuel Dragster record for awhile. This thing had a 180-degree crank
and really sounded weird. Wish I knew what happened to it. Most
everyone who had anything to do with the car is dead now so it would
be difficult to track down. It is one of those things -- flat head,
180 crank, 60 percent nitro -- everyone needed to hear once.
Oh, a side note: Eddie Hill brought the twice-motored car to
Corpus and wanted to run someone. Durart volunteered. He got a bit
of a head start. Eddie told him to leave when he was ready and he
(Eddie) would catch him. Durart said he thought he had the
two-motored car beat until about 1000 ft. Then the thing like to
blew him over when it came by. This was a week before Eddie turned
202 mph in the great state of New Mexico. Not many people believed
that either since he did it on gas. It was an outrageous time that
won't ever come again.
