Big Red Twists Off the Line

This is one of my favorite NASCAR circuit cars. The Dan Smoker-Dan Lewis-Merrimac Motors BIG RED A990 '65 Plymouth from Newport News, VA. This car had an adjustable rear axle, a straight front axle and a big hemi under the hood backed by a clutchflite trans. This was no show car but a hard running race car. They were real contenders with two cars on the NASCAR Grand Stock circuit.
They are racing at the '67 S/S Nationals at Cecil County, MD. Dave Koffell's Flintstone Flyer NASCAR injected gas funny -- another NASCAR Ultra Stock car -- is in the other lane. Gale Mortimer drove here, I believe.
Love that big banner over the starting line. Perfect bit to add flavor to some nostalgia meet today, huh?
