Here's an interesting bit of drag history. This is from an oval track magazine, now gone, called Cavalcade of Auto Racing ('63 issue). Fonda is an upstate NY Fairgrounds dirt track that is still running today. In the early sixties, Fonda, like other ovals, had a drag strip running through the middle of it. I've been to the dirt races many times but never saw the drags. I can't imagine the strip was a 1/4 mile. At any rate... here's two scans from '63. Check out who's on the right and dig the license plate... "CC."
