Mullins' War Horse Ready to Gallop in
2001
by Bruce Mullins
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,
children of all ages, get ready for the 2001 "WAR HORSE ON TOUR"
season. Sounds good, doesn't it? For the first time in my racing career, I
am preparing my team and myself for an intense schedule with a goal in
mind to finish in the top three in NHRA's Division 1 series. After the
performance level the Bruce Mullins racing team reached last year, we all
feel we are ready for this. Last year also showed us what we needed to do
between rounds. The whole crew, in just their second season together,
never buckled under the pressure.
Throw in the recent rules changes by NHRA
that should help make the Roots blower equipped cars more competitive, I
can't wait. During the past few months, I have completely disassembled the
car, inspecting every little piece and replacing anything that needed it.
To show we are going to play for keeps, this will be the first year I have
had a spare motor in the trailer. It will be there just in case; hopefully
we won't have to use it. I am also in the process of renovating the back
half of the trailer to install more cabinets and shelves to carry more
parts and to provide more workbench room.
Unfortunately, between the seven divisional
races and approximately five to seven national events we will hit in 2001,
there won't be time for match races. I will miss the Friday or Saturday
night showdowns, but the main goal is to chase points in what is probably
NHRA's toughest division. The only changes we are making to the War Horse
are a tire and gear change that hopefully will put the Mustang into the
5.70's at around 245 mph. And to top off the dream season, if everything
goes well, the "War Horse Team" will make a trip to the U.S.
Nationals at Indianapolis!
All I can say is stay tuned and follow the
travels of team Bruce Mullins, as this dream season unfolds.
Until next time,
Bruce Mullins
