Just wanted to check in and say that I took my first laps in the
alcohol funny car on Saturday at Palmdale. It went real well. Boy, do I
love that car! What fun! First pass on the car I got to feel what tire
shake is like. I got a little out of the groove at 300 feet and and got
the shake. Saw "four" of the guardrails coming a little close to
me so I peddled it and aborted the run. It wasn't real violent but I
couldn't see too well (four of everything!) On the second run, the engine
quit on the burnout. A ground wire shook loose and killed the
engine.
Got that fixed and went out for a third pass. Car launched well and was
going straight, so I figured this is as good a time as any to make a full
pass. It felt real smooth and straight and went through the lights and I
pulled the chutes at the first MPH cone. When those dual chutes hit, it
was like the hand of God just came down and stopped the car. I probably
came out of the seat and was thrown forward a good four inches! So I
tightened up the ol' belts a little tighter the next time. On the run, the
car felt like it was driving through the clutch a little. We gave the car
a little more clutch and went out again. Car ran better and good enough
for that Advanced ET license I was going for.
We're going to Sacramento this weekend (22nd) and racing in the CIFCA
deal there. Good excuse to give me some more seat time. I want to work on
my staging a bit. If you feel like it, please come by and say hi.
