First Day Qualifying at IHRA Northern Nationals

STANTON, Mich. - IHRA Top Fuel World Champion Paul Romine led first round qualifying for the 20th Annual IHRA CARQUEST Northern Nationals at the Mid- Michigan Motorplex. Romine, of Indianapolis, set the pace with a run at 4.800 seconds elapsed time and 301.60 miles-per-hour.

Other number one professional qualifiers include Mike Janis, Lancaster, N.Y., in Pro Modified, Jay Turner, Whitsett, N.C. in Nitro Harley-Davidson, Jimmy Rector, Vernon, Ala., in Funny Car and Gene Wilson, Canton, Ga., in Pro Stock.

Final professional qualifying resumes Saturday at noon, with final eliminations on Sunday.
