Among the major annual attractions at Norwalk Raceway Park is the
long-running "Night Under Fire." This celebration of drag racing
pyromania routinely features a collection of jet cars, wheelstanders,
nitro-burning dragsters, and/or Funny Cars, a sprinkling of historic and
nostalgic racecars, a Quick-16 eliminator run, and a gala fireworks
display. This year is Norwalk's 40th anniversary of operation, and NUF
featured the largest field of nitro-cars yet to appear. Star attraction
John Force unveiled a specially commissioned paint scheme on his FC
commemorating the event.
Fan turnout was a record...not just for NRP but also for any single-day
drag racing event in Ohio history. The S.R.O. crowd of over 40,000 was not
disappointed! Event highlights include Whit Bazemore defeating archrival
John Force in the first round, several sub-5 second runs with Dean Skuza
setting low ET of the event at 4.92, and Tony Pedregon emerging as overall
"champion" of the day via his back-to-back round wins.
