The Quickest Steel Chevy Flopper
By David Ray

It's as official as it's going to get -- the King Camaro's 6.36 steel Chevy time slip from OCIR.

We've recently been discussing the subject of the World's Quickest Steel Chevy Funny Car on Nitronic Research Header Flames. I have been searching for this time slip ever since the subject got hot. I was beginning to think I had imagined the whole deal, but I got lucky and found it packed away with some old drag paper clippings. It is from the Orange County International Raceway event where the Geare, LaPole, and Totten "King Camaro" ran the sport's quickest steel Chevy flopper elapsed time of 6.36 seconds.
I am not sure of the date (probably in '73 -- they were running real good). As I recall, when Dan Geare gave this to me, he said they broke something, and couldn't make eliminations, so it didn't get any print in the drag papers. Regardless it would be prior to Indy 1973 because at that race they had the three push-rod Arias in the car.
