Larry Dixon, Greg Stanfield and Angelle Savoie also led their respective categories at the $2 million race, the 23^rd of 24 races in the $50 million NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

Pedregon blasted his Castrol Syntec Ford Mustang down the quarter-mile in 4.786 seconds at 322.73 mph to lead the 16-car category. Pedregon trails his team-owner John Force by 13 points in the POWERade is aiming for his fourth straight No. 1 qualifying position and eight this season. Force is qualified in the No. 2 spot with two qualifying sessions remaining.

"At this point, if we can pick up a point or two or three, it may make a difference," said Pedregon. "Any time the points are this close, once you are safely in the show, the positions become critical. If we can stay low qualifier, that would be a good thing. We would like to put the Burden on John but right now, not only do we have to catch him, we have to also find a way around him."

Dixon covered the distance in his Miller Lite dragster in 4.569 at 323.81 to lead all Top Fuel competitors. Dixon was the No. 1 qualifier at the April event held at The Strip. Dixon's closest competitor in the standings, defending Top Fuel champion Kenny Bernstein, qualified in the No. 4 slot in his Budweiser King dragster.

"I don't think that the time is going to stand because there are other cars out there that can run better times tomorrow," said Dixon. "This track has the potential for very quick runs and I hope we're one of the cars to improve."

Stanfield powered his Mopar Parts Dodge Neon to the top of the Pro Stock filed with his numbers of 6.939 at 197.83.

Savoie set an elapsed time track record atop her Mohegan Sun Suzuki when she sped to the finish line in 7.265 at 183.72 to lead the two-wheel category.

Qualifying continues Saturday at 11:15 a.m.
