Here is a small piece about the concept behind my wooden model car.

The challenge was:

Scratch build a scale model hot rod without using any parts from a model car kit
No visits to any hobby shop or craft store
No plans or blueprints
Every part had to be available to anyone visiting a Home Depot store

The general parts are:

Body - scrap 2x6 pine board
Wheels - plastic plumbing pipe connectors
Slicks - non slip strips glued to the wheels
Font tires - disposal gaskets
Wheelie bar - peg board hammer holder
Headers - shrink wrap tubes
Roll bar - padlock
Windshield - cassette case top
Wing - CD case top
Wing support - shelf bracket
Parachute - felt wrapped on scrap wood
Chute lines - elastic cord
Paint - 4 coats sandable primer, 4 coats Rust-Oleum low gloss Jade
There are alternate skinny front wheels and tires for drag racing
The skinny wheels are sliding glass door wheels

The whole project from start to finish was photographed step by step and posted on the drag racing pictures newsgroup. Hundreds of gearheads followed the project and over a dozen of the newsgroup gang offered comments and advice.

There is a Name That Car contest running through November with the winner receiving a prize from Banana Land.
