Woodburn 37th Annual Season Opener Results

Woodburn, Ore. (May. 16) – The 37th Annual Baxter Auto Parts • Bi-Mart • 99.5 The Wolf Season Opener was indeed one for the record books.  Three new track records were set, namely, motorcycle mph, AA/Supercharged elapsed time, and AA/Supercharged mph.  Darin Bay and Barry Richter’s awesome jet dragster 300 mph-blasts shook the control tower so much that the Woodburn Dragstrip Staff was literally holding onto anything that was not securely anchored.  Larry Miner and Brian Hough performed to perfection in Funny Car while Joey Severance and Gregg Lawrence led the field of Top Alcohol Dragsters.  Pro Nostalgia and AA/Supercharged racers exceeded the 200 mph mark.  Top Comp, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, and Stock/Super Stock Combo racers displayed their racing prowess and the Sunoco Race Fuels ET Bracket Series racers claimed their share of the $34,000 purse. 
Larry Miner’s 5.823 toped Brian Hough’s 5.837 in Top Alcohol Funny Car and Joey Severance’s 5.442 bettered Gregg Lawrence’s 5.788 in Top Alcohol Dragster.  Reminiscent of the Pro Comp days, Miner faced Severance in the final with a handicapped start based on their previous best elapsed time.  Miner’s 5.800 coupled with a .012 reaction time was too much for Severance who trailed with a very respectable 5.479.  Scott White defeated the field in AA/Supercharged, setting a new track elapsed time of 6. 694 in the process.  Howard Anderson had earlier set the mph record with a blast of 207.70 mph.  Lloyd Hamilton defeated Mark Wallace in Pro Nostalgia.  Shane Molinari took the victory over Paul Nero in Top Comp.  Andy Morris took the double victory in Super Comp, winning both Saturday and Sunday, while adding the Electronics Gamblers title to his list as well.  Steve Laskowske won in Super Gas, Duane Moore in Super Street, and Tim Ellis emerged atop the Stock/Super Stock Combo entrants.  Jim Lindsay took top honors in the Dragsters & Roadsters class.  Sunoco Race Fuels Series winners included Danny Wargnier in Super Pro, Richard Kocer in Pro, Steve Watkins in Sportsman, and the veteran Van Smith in Motorcycle.  The NW Dragbike Pro Mod and Pro Street classes provided low elapsed times and high miles per hour.  Jeff Marsh set a new track mph record when he was timed in 7.011 seconds at 198.50 miles per hour.
