ATLANTA (October 26, 2011)—With less than 60 points separating the top five competitors in the quest for the 2011 Funny Car championship, there is a lot riding on the outcome of this weekend’s Big O Tires NHRA Nationals. One of the drivers in contention, John Force Racing’s Robert Hight, is hoping to make another trip to the winner’s circle at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway … and with plenty of newfound fans cheering him on.
The day before qualifying begins at the 11th annual race, Hight, who won in Vegas earlier this season and essentially locked up the 2009 Funny Car championship with a victory at the same venue, will take time to spend with fans during an appearance on behalf of NHRA title sponsor Full Throttle Energy Drink. The driver of the Auto Club Ford Mustang will sign autographs and greet fans from 7:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, at the Bass Pro Shops located at 8200 Dean Martin Drive in Las Vegas.
“I am excited about spending some time at Bass Pro Shops before the NHRA Big O Tires Nationals this weekend in Las Vegas,” said Hight, who currently is in fifth place, only 58 points behind the points leader, in the Funny Car standings with two races left in the Countdown to the Championship. “Bass Pro Shops is one of my favorite stores. I don’t get a lot of free time during the season, but if I get the chance to get into a Bass Pro Shops I am going to take it.
“I think you see a lot of crossover from their customers to our NHRA fans. The crowds are always excited and knowledgeable about what we are doing on the track in our Auto Club Ford Mustang.”
Following Hight’s appearance, a Matco Tools toolbox, valued at approximately $500, will be given away to one lucky fan during a drawing at 8 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to register for the drawing upon arrival at Bass Pro Shops and must be present to win.
Free samples of Full Throttle Energy Drink will be distributed by brand ambassadors from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Fans also will have the opportunity to pick up other giveaways during the event.
