Utah track gearing up for NAPA Auto Parts Nitro Jam June 29-30
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (June 7, 2012) – Rocky Mountain Raceways’ quarter-mile IHRA drag strip just finished up a repaving project that involved the removal of the old surface and placement of a new asphalt track all ahead of the biggest drag race in the state June 29-30 at the NAPA Auto Parts Nitro Jam presented by Good Vibrations Motorsports and Cricket Wireless.
Staker Parson undertook the project that finished late last month.
RMR recently got a fresh new track ahead of an exciting season of racing in 2012
“After 16 years of providing a great racing surface for the racers at RMR, our old surface has been removed and a new asphalt track put in its place. Staker Parson started by removing the top 2.5 inches of the current asphalt surface, then threw down a nice new track from the 330 foot mark to the finish line,” says Mike Eames, General Manager of Rocky Mountain Raceways. “They have machines that are capable of surfacing the road with continuous paving machines, which should give us one of the smoothest quarter miles in the country.”
Rocky Mountain Raceways drag strip was originally paved in 1997, when the Young Automotive Group purchased the racetrack and remodeled the entire facility.
“Staker Parson is a company with great credentials and did the first paving of the track 16 years ago and it was and still is one of the smoothest, flattest tracks in the country. This repaving will again be the best in the country and should produce some great ET’s and speeds,” says Ron Craft, Rocky Mountain Raceways Drag Strip Manager.
The NAPA Auto Parts Nitro Jam returns to Salt Lake City June 29-30
More than anything, the repaving project will give Utah race fans faster speeds and better racing when the stars of Nitro Jam visit the track June 29-30. The 2012 NAPA Auto Parts Nitro Jam will feature four nitro classes including Pro Fuel Dragsters, AMSOIL Prostalgia Nitro Funny Cars, Fuel Altereds and Nitro Harleys in addition to a ton of extras including the Utah debut of the Grave Digger versus Teenage Mutant Nina Turtle monster truck drag race, the return of the 30,000 horsepower Shockwave jet-powered semi plus a full contingent of IHRA sportsman classes competing for a spot in the Summit Tournament of Champions.
“I am very excited to have a new racing surface and would like to thank the Young Automotive Group for their support and believing in the sport of drag racing and all the participants that come from across the United States and Canada,” Craft said.
Don’t miss the NAPA Auto Parts Nitro Jam June 29-30 at Rocky Mountain Raceways.
