IHRA Nitro Jam returns to Castrol Raceway July 6-8

EDMONTON, Alberta (July 2, 2012) – The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Nitro Jam series returns to Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta on July 6-8 for the 10th annual MOPAR Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals.  

This year’s MOPAR Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals features multiple professional and sportsman classes spread over the three-day weekend of Canada’s biggest drag race. The 2012 MOPAR Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals will feature professional competition in a record number of classes including Top Fuel Dragster, AMSOIL Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car, Nitro Harley, Nostalgia Fuel Altered, Rocky Mountain Nostalgia Funny Car, Alcohol Funny Car, Alcohol Dragster and Pro Mod. The event will also feature multiple exhibitions including the 25,000 horsepower Super Shockwave jet truck, jet dragsters and funny cars and the Canadian debut of the “biggest” drag race in the world as the Grave Digger monster truck takes on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.   

The AMSOIL Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car contest will be the star attraction of the weekend with an open, qualified field of the best racers in the west, plus the return of 320 mph Top Fuel Dragsters as fans celebrate the 10th anniversary of Canada’s biggest drag race with an event unlike any other. 

The weekend will also include a Summit Racing Equipment Tournament of Champions presented by AMSOIL qualifier with competition in Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, Super Stock, Stock, Quick Rod, Super Rod and Hot rod plus a full contingent of Alberta’s best racers.   

This is the sixth race of the 2012 IHRA Nitro Jam season with championship points on the line in all classes. A spot in the year-end Summit Racing Equipment Tournament of Champions is on the line for racers in the sportsman classes on Saturday.    

 

    

WHAT: The IHRA MOPAR Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals is the sixth race of the 2012 IHRA Nitro Jam season.

SHOWTIMES: Friday, Saturday and Sunday will feature sportsman racing throughout the day followed by the FanFest Pit Party at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. The FanFest Pit Party features driver autographs and interactive stations for fans of all ages. FanFest and complete VIP access to the pit area is included with the price of admission. The Nitro Jam professional rounds will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, 6 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday.

FAN & MEDIA CELEBRATION: Fans and media members are invited to the MOPAR Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals prerace party on Thursday, July 5 from 4-7 p.m. at the Canadian Brewhouse located at 9538 Ellerslie Road, Edmonton, ALB T6X-0K6. Come hang with the stars of Nitro Jam and enjoy some great food and cold drinks.

TICKETS: Available at the gate day of show or in advance at www.nitrojam.com. General admission tickets are $35 for adults on Friday and $50 for adults on Saturday and Sunday available day of show and $15 for kids ages 6-12. Children 5 and under are free. Reserve seating is available.
