Road to the Summit SuperSeries World Championship begins in Edmonton
NORWALK, Ohio(August 16, 2012) – After a thrilling season of racing at IHRA tracks all across North America, the highly-anticipated Summit Team Finals presented by AMSOIL and Moser Engineering will kick off this weekend with the first of nine events over the next few weeks in the United States and Canada.
The Summit Team Finals presented by AMSOIL and Moser Engineering, designed to reward IHRA member tracks with national recognition and competition, will get underway this weekend with an event at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton representing the Division 6 Border Bandits.
Four weeks later Caprock Motorplex will host its very first Summit Team Finals as a part of the brand new Division 7 Gunslingers the weekend of September 13-16. Made up of tracks from the southwest, this is the second year in a row a new division has been added to the Team Finals lineup after the Border Bandits division made its debut last year. Also that weekend will be the Division 5 Team Finals at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park.
One week later a trio of events will take place as the Division 3, Division 9 and Division 2 “East” Team Finals hit the track. Pittsburgh Raceway Park will host the Division 3 Team Finals and Carolina Dragway will host the Division 2 “East” Team Finals the weekend of September 19-23 and Piedmont Dragway will welcome racers from the Carolinas September 20-23.
The weekend of September 27-30 Team Finals competitors will go at it again, this time in Division 1 and Division 4. Dallas Raceway will host Renegades racers that weekend while Richmond Dragway welcomes racers from the Patriots Division.
The final Team Finals race will take place October 3-7 with Division 2 “West” racers at Memphis International Raceway in Tennessee.
Each division will advance two drivers in the Top and Mod classes to the Summit Racing Equipment World Finals at Memphis International Raceway in October to compete in the Summit SuperSeries World Championship with the exception of Divisions 5, 6 and 7 which will advance only the winning driver from each class at each Team Finals event. The remaining two spots in the World Championship field, one in each Summit SuperSeries class, will come from a pool of “Wild Card” racers that cannot attend a Summit Team Finals event due to distance making up the 32 car field.
In addition to drivers competing for a chance to advance to the World Finals next month in Tennessee, each Summit Team Finals event will also feature numerous individual and team competitions – both on and off the track – to reward member tracks with a fun and exciting weekend of competition to conclude the racing season.
