Castrol Raceway sweeps podium at Division 6 Summit Team Finals

Thornsley, Closkey and Lloyd punch tickets to Summit SuperSeries championship in Memphis

EDMONTON, Alberta (August 20, 2013) – In the first Summit Team Finals action of the year Castrol Raceway swept the podium in the Division 6 Border Bandits team competition at the Edmonton, Alberta track, while three drivers from three very different parts of the country punched their tickets to Memphis in October for the Summit SuperSeries championship runoff.

Castrol Raceway Team C took the team crown with 16 points, holding off Castrol Raceway Team D by just one point. Castrol Raceway Team B was third with 13 points, followed by Castrol Raceway Team A with 12 points and Northern Lights Team A with 11 points. The rest of the top 10 included teams from Northern Lights Raceway, Calgary Drag Racing Association, Hi-Line Dragstrip and Eagle Motorplex.

D6 Summit SuperSeries Top winner Nathan Thornsley

In the Summit SuperSeries runoff drivers from three extreme ends of the northwest – Alaska, British Columbia and Montana – advanced to compete for the Summit SuperSeries World Championship at the Summit World Finals at Memphis International Raceway in October.

Alaska Raceway Park’s Nathan Thornsley will represent Top ET at the World Finals, winning the Top ET Summit SuperSeries runoff at Castrol Raceway. He defeated Interlake Dragway’s Ryan Jaenicke in the final. Jaenicke had a perfect triple zero reaction time in the big race, but he couldn’t run the numbers while Thornsley put together a solid package with a .023 reaction time and a 7.725 second pass on a 7.72 dial at 170.81 miles per hour.

D6 Summit SuperSeries Mod winner Andy Closkey

In the Mod ET runoff Andy Closkey of Eagle Motorplex defeated Kevin Klaus of the Calgary Drag Racing Association. Klaus won the battle at the line by seven thousandths of a second, but Closkey got it done at the top end with a 10.37 on a 10.35 dial to Klaus’ 11.682 on an 11.65.

In the Junior Dragster runoff Garrett Lloyd of Hi-Line Dragstrip advanced over Tyler Musgrove of Northern Lights, running a solid 8.044 on an 8.01 dial. Musgrove ran a 9.049 on a 9.00 dial.

Other big winners from the Division 6 Summit Team Finals were Top Main Event winner Natasha Cherchuk of Castrol Raceway, Mod Main Event winner Dan Coss of Castrol Raceway, Street Main Event winner Sandy Kovach of Hi-Line Dragstrip and Junior Main Event winner McKenna Bold of Castrol Raceway.
