CHRIS LAWYER ADDED TO NHRA COMMUNICATIONS TEAM

GLENDORA, Calif. (Jan. 16, 2014) — Chris Lawyer has been named Media Relations Manager for the National Hot Rod Association, NHRA Director of Media Relations Anthony Vestal announced today.

Lawyer joins the NHRA following a seasonal communications position with Michigan International Speedway. He has additional motorsports experience, having interned at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, working American Le Mans Series events at Virginia International Raceway and volunteering at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Lawyer has sports communication experience in other sports as well, having served in positions with Ole Miss Athletics Media Relations and the U.S. National Indoor Championships, a professional ATP/WTA tennis event.

In his new position, Lawyer will provide media outreach for the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, as well as support other NHRA communications programs and NHRA racing series. In addition, he will maintain and develop relationships with national media outlets, assist with research and statistical projects and contribute to all NHRA communications department publications.

“We are pleased to welcome a new media relations manager to the team who has a solid knowledge of sports communications as well as a proven track record in motorsports,” Vestal said. “Chris brings a tremendous amount of enthusiasm and desire to the position and we are confident that he will excel in his new role of promoting and publicizing the sport of NHRA Championship Drag Racing.”

Lawyer received a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Journalism and an emphasis in Public Relations from the University of Mississippi. A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., he recently relocated to the Southern California area and resides in Claremont, Calif.

“I am extremely excited to be joining the NHRA,” Lawyer said. “My goal has always been to secure a career in motorsports and I am ready for this great opportunity. I look forward to working with members of the media, fellow NHRA employees, and public relations representatives to promote positive coverage of the NHRA.”
