39th Annual Sunbelt Rentals/Bi-Mart Rose Festival Drags Results

Mike McManus (Super Pro), Matt Kielman (Pro), Chance Taylor (Sportsman), Jim Werre (ET Motorcycle), Dale Hrenko (Super Comp), and Mike Hilsendager (Run Tuff) all claimed wins on the Saturday edition of the 39th Annual Sunbelt Rentals & Bi-Mart Rose Festival Drags. With cooperating weather that allowed for great side-by-side races, Darin Bay’s Jet Dragster team put together a pass of 294 and 285 miles per hour respectively. In the Nostalgia Funny Car category, all of the ‘Floppers’ put on a show for qualifying, with Jesse Welch running a 6.749 at 204.63mph. Top Speed of the event went to Greg Howland with a 212.31mph shot.

The final two competitors in the Super Pro category started the day respectively in 22nd and 31st. However, by the end of the day, those numbers surely changed! Mike McManus took down a competition single, Debbie Dawson, Michael Boyd, Gary Palmateer, and Tom Golden, while Kirby Olmsted downed Ken Woodward, Loretta McCool, Bill/Tony McNeal and Gary Wargnier before earning the laddered single in the semi-finals. Emmett McKillup earned the Package for the Points with a .011 package, while Mike Boyd was the number one qualifier with a perfect reaction time.

In the Pro bracket category, the final round came down to MattKielman and Richard Potter. Kielman battled his way into the final round by defeating Ron Parks, Wayde Dodd, Andy Harris, Rob Newman, and Tony Price. Meanwhile, Potter defeated BryonBilodeau, a competition broke single, Sherry Wilson, Nicholas Shepherd, and Dave Nassimbene. In the final round, the race was over before it even began as Potter turned on the red light start by just -.009.Ken Sweo earned the Package for the Points with a .007 overall package, while Mike Powell was the number one qualifier with a .001.

Sportsman eliminations came down to Chance Taylor and Marty Arrigotti. 19 year old Taylor defeated Briana Marshall, Jerry Durant III, Jerry Durant Jr and Derrick Jackson before earning a single in thesemi’s. Opposite him was Arrigotti, who downed Alan Morrill, TracyHerinckx, Frank Pettit, a competition single, and Robert Glafka to reach the finals. Durant III earned the A-1 Performance Trans and Converters Package for the Points with a .005 package, while EarlEberly with a .007.

For the Motorcycle category, a pair of good friends and fierce competitors lined up in the final round. Jim Werre, who defeated Ted Brown and John Schaber to earn a single in the semi’s, lined up alongside Joseph Lind, who eliminated Richard Parsons, Don DePeel, and Gary Tokos to face off with his teammate. In the finals, Lind turned on the red light by just -.004 to hand the win to Werre.

In the Olympic Iron Works Harley Eliminator category, Gary Tokosclaimed the victory after John Plaster was unable to fire. Tokos made his way into the final by defeating John Schaber and Bob Osborne, while number one qualifier Plaster took the single in the first round before defeating Tony Morgan. In the finals, Tokos ran a 9.995 on his 9.88.

In the Super Comp category, the final round came down to DaleHrenko and Chuck Linne. Hrenko made his way into the final round by defeating Dennis Boley, a competition single and a laddered single. For the number one qualifier Linne: a laddered single, Greg Pessemier, and Ed Hauter were the defeated racers. In the final round, the race was over before it even began when Linne fouled out. Chuck’s 8.905was the number one qualifier efforts.
