WOODBURN RACER SCORES NORTHWEST CHAMPIONSHIP

HUBBARD’S BRONEC CLAIMS DIVISION TITLE

In a stunning display of drag racing mastery, ‘Dynamite’ Dave Bronec battled through seven bracket-style elimination rounds of racing to claim the NHRA Division 6 Summit ET Finals Championship. Bronec, racing for Team Woodburn (Woodburn Dragstrip) competed against the best bracket racers from across Canada, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana to earn the victory against David Chun Jr, Vancouver WA.

Bracket racing, a competition amongst two racers with the goal to run as consistently as possible, has its finest display once a year for the ET Finals. This event, which took the best 56 racers from the 14 Division 6 race tracks and brings them to one location, is the toughest event of the year. In the third round of competition, Bronec left off the starting line with a ‘perfect’ reaction time start to earn a single pass in the next round. On that next pass, he was .003 of a second away from being perfect again. Through the rounds he battled until into the semi-final round when he lined up alongside fellow Woodburn racer Ryan Schaefer, Tigard, OR. Leaving the starting line, it was Bronec’s 1972 Nova that earned the victory over his teammate. With the grandstands lined with Team Woodburn members in support of Bronec, the final round victory was by only .019 seconds. Coming down the return road, Bronec’s car was surrounded by Team Woodburn members cheering and celebrating long into the night for their team member—Dave Bronec, 2014 NHRA Division 6 ET Finals Champion.
