GLENDORA, Calif. (Jan. 12, 2015) — John Byczek has been named Media Relations Manager for the National Hot Rod Association, NHRA Director of Media Relations Anthony Vestal announced today.
Byczek joins the NHRA following a seasonal communications position with the Houston Texans of the National Football League. He has a variety of sports communications experience, having worked with Comcast SportsNet Houston as a production assistant, working with the Houston Chronicle as an assistant to the NFL staff and spending three years with the University of Texas Athletics Communications department as an undergraduate.
In his new position, Byczek will provide media outreach for the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, as well as support other NHRA communications programs and NHRA racing series. In addition, he will maintain and develop relationships with national media outlets, assist with research and statistical projects and contribute to all NHRA communications department publications.
“John has a great work ethic and will offer a different perspective given his experiences from outside the motorsports arena,” Vestal said. “He’s enthusiastic and is anxious to learn what makes NHRA drag racing so special.”
Byczek received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin in May 2014 with a major in Kinesiology and an emphasis in Sport Management. He recently relocated to the Southern California area from Houston, Texas.
“It’s an honor to be joining the NHRA,” Byczek said. “I want to establish a career in sports and the NHRA is one of the most exciting and fastest-growing platforms to do that.”
