The first round of the UK National Championships had seen a Friday rain off but the weather forecast improved for the remaining two days.
Despite the cold first day, all competitors had the opportunity to test and tune their new or improved cars and bikes in addition to the Top Fuel and Funny Car Shootouts.
TOP FUEL SHOOT OUT
The Shoot Out between the Top Fuel Dragsters saw Liam Jones in his first round of competition after licencing runs were completed the previous week.
It was also great to welcome Birgitte Bremnes from Norway who was to start her observed licencing runs for Top Fuel having caught the bug when she had Junior Dragster Licence when she was only 8. The Islanders Team gave her experience in the pits and driving in Top Methanol and Top Fuel.
Due to the extreme cold track the Top Fuel Cars were overpowering and going up in smoke but the spectacle and sound was a great start for 2015.
Shoot Out Details
1/ Duncan Micallef 4.977 sec /143mph
2/ Jari Halinen 9.278 sec / 69mph
3/ Birgitte Bremnes 8.016 sec / 67mph
4/ Liam Jones 8.495 sec / 68mph
FUEL FUNNY CAR
Qualifier details saw the return of John Spuffard in the smart ex USA John Force car with a crowd-pleasing massive burn out for a fire breathing 5.735 sec/ 134 mph qualifier but the Final was taken by Gordon Smith in a storming 4.939 sec /257 mph over Kevin Kent in the West Ten motor car on a 5.338 sec 175 mph run with a broken blower belt.
