EPPING, N.H. – The third annual New England Hot Rod Reunion presented by AAA Insurance returns to the New England area Aug. 28-30, with classic cars and nostalgia quarter-mile drag racing.
The Hot Rod Reunion® is a three day classic car show and nostalgic quarter-mile drag race that takes place at the historic New England Dragway, located just north of metropolitan Boston.
The event comes to life Aug. 28 at 8 a.m., as hundreds of vintage show cars and hot rods pour into the facility for the start of the event’s show ‘n shine, just one part of this 3-day event. Gates will open at 8 a.m. each day of the reunion.
Nostalgic nitro quarter-mile drag racing will begin Friday at noon and continue for three full days. Time trials, qualifying and exhibition runs will all be showcased all day.
The first day of the reunion will end in thrilling fashion with flames, smoke and the sound of a screaming jet engine piercing the sky during ultrafast jet car racing at more than 200 mph.
Saturday will be the day the legends take center stage at the event with two autograph sessions in the Dynamat Legends tent. The autograph sessions will feature 2015 grand marshal Al Segrini, winner of back-to-back NHRA Winternationals Funny Car titles in 1983 and 1984. Also honored will be Walt Markert, Nick Marshall, Dave Vermilya, Jack Merkel, Charlie Seabrook and Walt Weney as well as other notables including 2015 Drag Racing Hall of Fame inductee Bob Muravez and 1978 U.S. Nationals champion Tom “The Mongoose” McEwen, one of 15 drivers to win a national event in Top Fuel and Funny Car. The Hot Rod Reunion Reception takes place at 2 p.m. and is a perfect way to hear from the honorees first-hand.
Saturday’s racing finale will feature the world famous Cacklefest® as dozens of nostalgia fuelers line up and light up all at the same time. The Cacklefest® is the Reunion’s version of fireworks with its sights and sounds of the dramatic day-ending event.
The exciting weekend concludes Sunday with eliminations at 9:30 a.m. followed by pre-race ceremonies at 10:45 a.m. Sunday will also include an encore Cacklefest® and jet car pass. The three-day event wraps up as winners are crowned and points are earned in the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series.
The Reunion will also feature a large vintage swap meet and vendor midway.
