GLENDORA, Calif. (Aug. 17, 2015) — Race fans who purchase a full event ticket or full event Top Eliminator Club (TEC) ticket for the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, Sept. 2-7 at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, will receive a free ticket good for admission to U.S. Nationals testing on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
NHRA Mello Yello Series Top Fuel and Funny Car teams utilize the test session to fine-tune their 10,000-horsepower machines so they’ll be thundering at maximum performance during the world’s most prestigious drag race at the historic multi-purpose motorsports facility located just west of downtown Indianapolis. In recent seasons, the test session has been closed to the public.
Individual test session tickets will not be sold. The only way to attend the test session is by purchasing a full event TEC or full event ticket, and those can be purchased at the track box office on Aug. 26. Those who purchase their full event or TEC tickets in advance will be sent a free test session ticket. Parking is free during the test session, and fans should enter the facility off of the track’s main entrance at U.S. Hwy 136. Gates will be open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.
To purchase TEC, full-event, general-admission or reserved seats for the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, log on to www.NHRA.com/tickets or call the NHRA Ticket Sales Center, (800) 884-NHRA (6472). General admission tickets for children 12 and younger are free with any paid adult ticket. Students with valid ID can purchase general admission tickets for 50 percent off at the event ticket office.
The most historic and tradition-rich event in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals has been contested annually since 1955 and its past list of winners includes ‘Big Daddy’ Don Garlits, Shirley Muldowney, Don ‘The Snake’ Prudhomme, John Force, Bob Glidden, Tony Schumacher and Kenny Bernstein, among others.
The race is the 18th of 24 events in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series and the race will once again be showcased in expanded coverage on ESPN and ESPN2. Richie Crampton (Top Fuel); Alexis DeJoria (Funny Car); Shane Gray (Pro Stock); and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) were last year’s winners.
The Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals will feature intense side-by-side racing at more than 320 mph, as drivers in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle compete for their share of the $2 million purse and important world championship points.
The stakes will be high as teams will battle for the final top 10 spots for the Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship playoffs. With an increased amount of points in play due to the recent change to the point-and-a-half system for this event (150 points to the winner), the drama on Championship Monday is expected to be more amplified than ever. Perhaps more importantly, drivers will compete to earn a permanent spot in NHRA history alongside the many legends who’ve won this race in the past, as a Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals winner.
The event also will showcase the Traxxas Nitro Shootout, where the top drivers in Top Fuel and Funny Car will race for $100,000 paydays in separate bonus races. The race also will offer thrilling competition in both the NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod Series and the NHRA Lucas Oil Series, which also will be highlighted by its annual Mopar HEMI Challenge for Super Stock cars.
