Woodbridge, VA., August 23, 2015 – Barbara Schultz, matriarch of a prolific racing family, passed away after a prolonged illness today at age 79. Mrs. Schultz will be remembered by many in the drag racing community as the mother and business manager of Roberta Schultz Mack, a fixture on the East Coast funny car match racing circuit in the 1970s and 1980s along with her late husband Walter “Tex” Schultz.
In addition to her daughter Roberta, her son Carl drove the family funny car for a time and her daughter Suzie drove the family Pro Stock car on the early Miss America Pro Stock Circuit. Her Son-In-Law Tod Mack is the founder and former owner of the Maryland International Raceway in Budds Creek, MD. among several other drag strips and recognized as one of the sport’s influential innovators. He also drove the Big Mac Attack funny cars for many years. Her oldest Son, Walter, was the guiding force of her youngest Son Shawn’s very successful motocross career.
The current generation of grandchildren and great-grandchildren are continuing the Schultz motorsports legacy with Greg Cooper a successful motocross racer and great granddaughters Alexis and Mia Schultz major forces on the PDRA and NHRA Junior Dragster circuits.
No funeral arrangements have been made yet.
We extend our sympathies to our friends Roberta and Carl. bp
