INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 1, 2015) – NHRA Funny Car racers Alexis DeJoria and Courtney Force were side-by-side as the Traxxas Nitro Shootout fan vote ended today, promising for one of the most thrilling lottery drawings in the history of the famed all-star race.
DeJoria’s fan base granted her a tiny one percentage point lead in Funny Car with 43 percent, narrowly edging Courtney Force, who grabbed 42 percent of the vote as the two rivals are vying for the final starting position in the $100,000 Traxxas Nitro Shootout for Funny Car.
The two drivers, alongside five other Funny Car racers, will watch to see which lottery ball emerges during the official Traxxas Nitro Shootout lottery drawings, held at noon Wednesday, Sept. 2, during the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals press conference at Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis.
In Top Fuel, Brittany Force received the most votes at 57 percent, followed by Clay Millican with 24, Larry Dixon at 11 and Dave Connolly and Terry McMillen at 4 percent each.
Other Funny Car drivers with a shot at the lottery are Del Worsham, who received 10 percent of the fan vote, Cruz Pedregon with 2, and John Hale, Chad Head and Tony Pedregon with 1 apiece.
Each racer will get to add as many lottery balls in the machine as their fan vote percentage indicates. One drawing will be held for the five Top Fuel drivers and another drawing will be held for the seven Funny Car racers.
The winning Funny Car lottery winner will earn a first round matchup with top seed Jack Beckman in the Traxxas Nitro Shootout for Funny Car on Sunday, Sept. 6. The Top Fuel driver whose lottery ball gets pulled will earn a first round meeting with top seed Tony Schumacher in the Traxxas Nitro Shootout for Top Fuel on Saturday, Sept. 5.
Schumacher is the defending Traxxas Nitro Shootout winner in Top Fuel and John Force is the defending Traxxas Nitro Shootout winner in Funny Car.
