BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series heads to Auto Club Famoso Raceway for the Nostalgia Fall Championships and the Good Vibrations Saturday Night Nitro fan appreciation night featuring Nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars and Top Fuel Dragsters.
The event is the final event of the year and will crown champions for the Heritage Series Group 2 classes that include Nostalgia Eliminator, Gas and Hot Rod classes made up of front engine dragsters, roadsters, coupes and door slammers. The event also includes the tracks Fun Ford Weekend event
Jason Barta and Josh Wagner are looking to take home the titles in Nostalgia Eliminator I (NE I) and Hot Rod respectively as the each have more than a two round lead over the rest of the class while a pair of racers are tie for the championship hunt in both the NE III and D/Gas classes. Ed DeStaute and Roger Turley are locked at 170 points each in NE III and Ed Carey and Mike Radener are on top in D/Gas followed by several drivers that are still in the chase.
Keith Morovich has a 21 point lead over Ray Padgett in A/Gas with Doug Carter leading Tom Tourke by just 11 points in B/Gas.
In NE II, Gary Ryan is up on Jeff Crider and Brian Smith leads Wayne Hoover, Jim Finn and Chris Rea in C/Gas.
Racing kicks off on Saturday with qualifying runs for the Heritage Series and Fun Ford classes that will also include final rounds of competition from the rain postponed NHRA Heritage Series event at Rocky Mountain Raceways outside Salt Lake City, Utah.
Saturday Night Nitro parade kicks into gear at 6:30 p.m. with Nostalgia Funny Cars, Altereds and Top Fuel Dragsters followed by qualifying at 7 p.m. and eliminations at 9:30.
Racing continues on Sunday with elimination rounds for the NHRA Heritage Series and Fun Ford at 9 a.m. and continuing throughout the day, culminating with the crowning of champions and the winner’s circle celebration.
