DALLAS, Texas (January 28, 2016) – The 2015 NHRA South Central Division Moser Sportsman Shootout field was finalized with a wild card drawing at the recent South Central Division Awards ceremony.
Through a season long point’s battle in 2015, the top two Moser Sportsman Shootout point’s earners in each of the seven classes in competition were slotted into the 16-car field while Larry Carter and Jacob Pitt will complete the ladder as the Moser Shootout Wild Card entries. The race within a race event will take place April 23, 2016 during the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Texas Motorplex, Ennis, Texas.
2014 Moser Sportsman Shootout champion Slate Cummings will defend his championship as he qualified in the Super Stock class and could meet up with his brother Britt in round two who qualified in Stock. To do so, Britt will need to get past 2014 Lucas Oil National Champion Austin Williams in round one who qualified in both Stock and in Super Comp.
The Moser Sportsman Shootout is unique in that racers from seven entirely different class structures Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will be racing each other. Eliminations will be in a dial-in/breakout handicap format on an eighth-mile. The Christmas tree is in a full countdown mode with the CrossTalk feature not in use.
A $15,000 cash purse is up for grabs with up to $5,000 going to the winner, $2,000 to the runner-up, $1,000 to each of the semifinalists, $700 to the quarter-finalists and $400 to each of the remaining event qualifiers.
Moser Engineering also sponsors Sportsman Shootout events in the NHRA North Central and Southeast Divisions. The North Central Division’s Moser Sportsman Shootout will take place at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series final at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky., Aug. 27. The Southeast Division Moser Sportsman Shootout will be held at the Division 2 final at Rockingham Dragway in Rockingham, N.C., Oct. 29.
