YORK, SPRINGS, PA – York US30 Dragway was known nationwide for it’s many outstanding drag racing events and 1968 was no exception. Two of the nation’s premier funny cars staged at York to do battle for 1320 feet supremacy. Dick Harrell from the Midwest in his Camaro and local Dauphin, PA hero Bruce Larson in his renowned USA-1 Camaro.
The two legendary race cars will appear side by side once again at the York US30 Heritage Days at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing on July 8-9th. Although 48 years have gone by the two race cars have been meticulously preserved for this once in a lifetime reunion and the nitro engines will be started during the cacklefest activities at specific times during the two day event.
Linda Vaughn “Miss Hurst Golden Shifter” the first lady of motorsports will join the many legends of drag racing who will be in attendance for the 15th Annual York Reunion. “Ohio George” Montgomery, Wally Booth, Jim Walther, Jere Stahl, Ed Hedrick, Larry Lombardo, Jack Redd, Bob Harrop, and Bruce Larson to name a few.
Friday is Bill “Grumpy’ Jenkins Day in the museum with a display of three original Grumpy’s Toy race cars including the l968 Grumpy’s Toy IV the first NHRA Pro Stock winner.
An automotive flea market will be part of the Latimore Valley Fairgrounds along with the display of drag racing vehicles and industry vendors. The Annual Legion of Honor awards ceremony will be presented at 5 p.m. Friday when ten new nominees will be inducted into the Legion class of 2016.
Musclecars, street rods, and special interest vehicles will be on display during the Glory Days Cruise-in on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Awards will be presented by Linda Vaughn.
A special Jere Stahl Roast will be presented in the museum on Saturday. Special legends of drag racing autograph sessions will be scheduled and posted in the museum lobby for both days.
The event is the first part of the York Nostalgia Weekend and will conclude on Sunday, July 10th at Beaver Springs Dragway with the presentation of the 14th Annual York Nostalgia Nationals. Activities get underway at 8 a.m.
