YORK SPRINGS, PA – On Friday, July 7, the 16th Annual Pilgrimage to the York Reunion begins. The reunion is the annual York US30 Dragway reunion that takes place the second weekend in July.
Drag racing icons and legends will be gathering at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing and the Latimore Valley Fairgrounds to pay their respects to York US30 Dragway that ceased operations at the end of October 1979.
The track was in its day a world renowned drag racing operation that was heralded by the little guy racers as well as a stellar group of professional drag racers from across the United States, Canada, Australia, and in fact even from England and the rest of the world. The contributing event to this stature was the first ever Super Stock Nationals that was held there in 1965. To this day the event is referred to as “the Woodstock of Drag Racing.”
After 38 years of silence, its impact on the Pennsylvania landscape is deafening. At the recent Aviation Days at the York Airport on June 17-18, a constant request from attendees was, "When will there be another event held at the former site?" Not racing but in a stagnant form.
This year’s York reunion will feature a Dave Strickler Day on Friday, July 7, and the 50th Anniversary of George Cureton and Ed Miller’s World Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1967. The York US30 Heritage Days will be presented at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing In York Springs on July 7-8. York’s World Champion Strickler will be honored with his special day for the outstanding contributions he made to the sport running out of Ammon R. Smith Auto Company with his world renowned “Old Reliable” Chevrolets.
Two days of memories unfold with many vehicles that ran at this famous raceway, legends of the sport, Legion of Honor awards, the Ford Fairlane Club of America display on Friday, and a Glory Days cruise-in on Saturday, July 8. The event features cackling thunder start-ups on both days.
The event supports the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing and runs from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, July 7, and from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 8. Admission is $10.00 for one day or a Special two-day ticket for $15.00.
On Sunday, July 9, action shifts to Beaver Springs Dragway for the York Nostalgia Nationals drag race starting at 8 a.m. with legendary race cars vying for the York Nostalgia Nationals crown.
