YORK SPRINGS, PA – The fifteenth Annual Legion of Honor Awards presentation will be held at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing on Friday, July 20th in conjunction with the Third Annual York US30 Heritage Days nostalgia drag racing event and the 17th annual York US30 Dragway reunion on July 20-21, 2018.
The annual awards are presented by the National Nostalgia Drag Racing Association. Each recipient was nominated by one of their peers from the drag racing community for their many achievements and contributions to the drag racing sport thru the years. An individual award is presented to each recipient and their name is placed upon a perpetual award that is on display in the museum in perpetuity. There is no greater award than one bestowed upon you by your peers during an informal atmosphere of mutual respect.
The York event has been an annual reunion for the former York US30 Dragway at the York Airport in Thomasville. The track closed in 1979 at the conclusion of the racing season. The annual pilgrimage to the York Reunion will occur for the seventeenth consecutive year.
The York Reunion has been recognized nationally for attracting the largest turnout of Legends of Drag Racing each year to assemble at one event at one time. The 2018 recipients include pioneers in the industry and the sport and are as follows: Bill Truby, Fred Henderson, Jim The Painter, Carl Rubrecht, Walter and Ann Toews, Terry Bobb, Jr., and Drake Viscome.
The York US30 Heritage Days and York Reunion are presented for the benefit of the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing (EMMR). The event is presented Friday, July 20th from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 21st from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
