GRUMPY’S TOY RETURNS TO YORK US 30 DRAGWAY

YORK, PA – Vicki Bolla and Dale Carvender will have the Grumpy’s Toy IV Camaro on display at the former site of York US30 Dragway on Father’s Day weekend, Saturday, June 16th, and Sunday, June 17th, at the York Airport in Thomasville, PA.

The York US30 Dragway was a significant part of Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins career. In the early days, he was head of the technical inspection at the popular drag racing facility. As the years proceeded he began running his popular Grumpy’s Toy entries at York and many drag racing events all over the country and at the NHRA National events.

The Grumpy’s Toy IV race car was a very important part of his dynamic career as a driver and the owner of many of his other creations. The Toy IV was restored to its full original condition by Bolla and Carvender and is a fan favorite wherever it is shown.

Other entries to share the spotlight at York Aviation Days is the top fuel dragster of Richard Hahn, the junior stock ’55 Chevy of Tommy Ronca, Dale Broderick and Karl Nishwitz’s competition coupes, the famed D.A. Santucci Top Gas Dragster of Greg Swenson and a potpourri of drag racing vehicles and memorabilia to pay tribute to the facility that was world famous in its day.

The show will feature drag racing memorabilia and artifacts for sale along with original posters from the June 1974 NHRA National Invitational event at the track. A special start-up of the race cars will be held at 2 p.m. both days. The event is open to the public at no charge during this special weekend. Hours are Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
