2018 York US30 Heritage Days Awards Announced

YORK SPRINGS, PA – The York US30 Heritage Days ended on a wet note, but a little dampness did not discourage the enthusiasm for the event. The event was completed on a high note at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing and the awards flowed to a stellar group of recipients.

In the Drag Racing (wire wheel) category Brian Beattie of Macungie took first place honors with the Jim & Alison Lee Top Fuel dragster while Dale Broderick of Clinton, Maryland, garnered second place honors with his outstanding A/Competition Coupe.

William Sell of Spring Grove debuted his newly restored Clyde Morgan Javelin Funny Car and walked off with first place honors in the Drag Racing (bodied) category while Gary & Beth Swenson of York took second place honors with their beautiful ’63 Corvette Gas Coupe.

Bruce Larson world renowned funny car driver from Dauphin was awarded the Highest Esteem Award for his participation at every York Reunion event since 2002. Larry “Doggie” Sweigart of Ephrata was awarded the Nostalgia Person of the Year for his devotion to the nostalgia drag racing community.

A special Appreciation Award for seventeen years of continuous support to the York Nostalgia events was presented to Wayne & Dan Jesel of Lakewood, New Jersey, on behalf of Jesel Competition.

The People’s Choice award was presented to the Montgomery Family of Roslyn, PA, and their ’65 Plymouth “Mr. 555” formerly driven and owned by their late dad and grandfather, Ken Montgomery.

Carol “Bunny” Burkett of Spotsylvania, Virginia, was deemed the Best of Show with her immaculate funny car to conclude the awards ceremonies.

Darwin Doll of York, promoter of the York Nostalgia events, was presented a cake of appreciation for his devotion in presenting the York Nostalgia events for seventeen consecutive years by Sharon Lombardo and Vicki Bolla devoted nostalgia participants.
