Here’s a Kodak Instamatic Tribute to the late, great Jimmy King. These pics are from his mid to late funny car years.
The King & Marshall Satellite, Lebanon Valley Dragway, September 1975. Its battle scars only made it prettier.
King wore the crown that day, defeating a 6-car field. Here’s his final round conquest of Al Hanna.
In 1976, King’s Satellite shell took its final flight and was replaced by this Monza, seen here in June 1977.
Soon the new Monza wasn’t looking new anymore. This shot is from September 1977. Note the holes busted through the wheel bubbles. King was fearless and notoriously hard on his equipment.
By 1979, the car was long overdue for a new paint job. It was mainly red, and like all of the King & Marshall paint schemes, a highly original layout. Unfortunately, all I’ve got is this shot from the front.
Well, so long, Jimmy King, and thanks for all the memories.
