YORK, PA – The drag racing operations at York US30 Dragway, Thomasville, PA, at the York Airport ceased presenting the finest drag racing events in the country at the end of the 1979 season; however, the nostalgia community continues their support for an annual York Reunion with the eighteenth annual to be presented at the York US30 Heritage Days event on January 12-13, 2019, at the Lebanon Valley Expo Center in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
The National Nostalgia Drag Racing Association presents the annual Legion of Honor awards on Saturday, January 12, at 5 p.m. The prestigious awards are comparable to Hall of Fame awards. The awards are nominated by the recipients’ peers with an individual award and their names placed upon a perpetual award that is on display in the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing in York Springs, PA, in perpetuity.
The honorees for 2019 are Larry Kopp, Carol Henson, Rick Osburn, Buck Wheatley, Jay Wheatley (of Wheatley Brothers fame), Tom McCrea, and Bob Gerdes of Circus Custom Paints, a distinct group of deserving contributors to the drag racing community.
The Nostalgia Person of the Year Award will be presented to Joe McComas, of Dagsboro, Delaware. Joe is a virtual walking York US30 Dragway encyclopedia.
The York Reunion has been recognized nationally for attracting the largest group of Legends of Drag Racing to assemble at one event at one time throughout the years. 2019 marks 40 years since York US30 Dragway has operated and the fever pitch of those memories has been a driving factor for the nostalgia community all these years!
