Santa Ana, CA (August 26, 2019) Drivers of the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series dove into action at the 18th Annual NMCA All-American Nationals presented by Whipple Superchargers, Aug. 22-25 at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, and awaiting winners was the ever-welcoming Aerospace Components Winner’s Circle.
In addition to the series’ regularly contested categories, the race located two hours from Detroit, the birthplace of Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler, featured the Chevrolet Performance 50th Anniversary COPO Camaro Shootout presented by COPO Parts Direct, and the Ford Performance Cobra Jet Showdown presented by Watson Racing. As always, the Aerospace Components Winner’s Circle awaited drivers doing everything in their power to push to championships with only race remaining on this year’s tour.
There were more than 80 COPO Camaros across the categories for the Chevrolet Performance 50th Anniversary COPO Camaro Shootout presented by COPO Parts Direct, a special feature of this event. John Simbeck recorded a perfect reaction time to lead qualifying, and after six rounds of eliminations, Aaron Allison arrived at the win with a 9.47 on a 9.43 dial over Todd Patterson, who was 9.21 on a 9.20 dial.
Reigning category champion Jesse Wilson clocked a 10.13 in his Camaro to lead qualifying in Chevrolet Performance Stock presented by Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center, and as he has done before, he met Haley Burkhammer in the final round of eliminations. Wilson used a holeshot and a 10.21 in his Camaro to wrap up the win over Burkhammer, who was 10.16 in her Camaro.
The Proform Rumble category saw Gary Alfrey arrive at a 12.26 on a 12.25 index in his GTO to lead qualifying, but the final round belonged to Dewayne Massengale and David Rickey and their Camaros. In the double-break-out battle, Massengale motored to the win with an 11.68 on an 11.75 dial while Rickey was 11.13 on an 11.25 dial.
In LME Street King, Ricardo LaCosta led qualifying with a 10.76 on a 10.75 index in his Malibu, and later, he lapped up the event win with a lifting 10.86 on a 10.75 index over Steve Griswold, who had trouble and got out of the throttle in his Corvette.
In the Chevrolet Performance Street Car Challenge, Jeff Brady was the overall winner with a 9.89 average in his Camaro, while Terry Faust was the runner-up with a 10.04 average in his Corvette. Scott Bolek picked up the 10-second win in his CTSV and Norm Jensen picked up the 11-second win in his Camaro.
