Famous Drag Bike Racer Paul Gast to serve as Grand Marshal at Empire Dragway
LEICESTER, NY (June 9, 2025) – Paul “Fast By” Gast will highlight the season opener with a personal appearance as Grand Marshall of the Pro Bike & Sled Series (PBSS) at New York State’s Empire Dragway June 20 – 21, 2025.
“I appreciate the invitation and look forward to seeing the PBSS competitors,” said Paul Gast. “Many of them are customers, and all of them are friends.”
Gast, a championship drag bike racer and owner of Fast by Gast in Grand Island, NY, for 52 years, will participate in the PBSS team meeting, along with a special pre-race rider introduction, a session on the microphone during qualifying and elimination, and hang out with the PBSS teams.
“I can’t think of a more appropriate person to be named Grand Marshal for PBSS than Paul Gast,” said PBSS competitor and multi-time series winner Josie Brooks. “The contributions he has made and continues to make to every level of motorcycle drag racing are endless. He’s a legend.”
Gast won an NHRA Spring Nationals in 1990, is a many-time national champion, and holds the current Pro Mod Motorcycle National quarter-mile record at 3.93 seconds and 181 miles per hour. With his contributions to the sport as a racer and at a technical level, Gast has been one of the most influential people in the class’s history.
“Paul Gast is the best choice for being the Grand Marshal of PBSS,” said Mike Nearhoof, PBSS competitor and series winner. “Paul has been an innovator since motorcycle drag racing started to gain notoriety. He has inspired nearly everyone who has thrown a leg over a bike and competed at the drag strip. Without Paul Gast and the Fast by Gast company, motorcycle drag racing would not be where it is today.”
Qualifying rounds will be held Friday, June 20, at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 21, at 10:00 a.m., with eliminations starting at 12:00 noon.
The eighth-mile drag race event at Empire Dragway in Leicester, NY, will include the Pro Bike & Sled Series (PBSS), the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, the 5.50 Super Series, and Box and No-Box eliminators.
The Quick 32 Sportsman Series, the Pro Bike & Sled Series (PBSS), the 5.50 Super Series, along with the Box and No-Box divisions will compete on the Empire Dragway eighth-mile track surface and compete for their respective Championship Point Award Series on June 20 – 21, July 18 – 19, August 15 – 16 and September 12 – 13, 2025.
