NHRA Division 3 racers descended upon Summit Motorsports Park for a doubleheader billed as the Cavalcade of Stars. Racers had to endure severe weather, including a tornado nearby, and searing heat during the event. Photos by Dave Oakes highlight race number one.
Melanie Johnson took home the top alcohol dragster win with a 5.64 when Jamie Noonan shook the tires.
Phillip Esz put an .037 light on Sean Bellemeur and held on for the 5.535 – 5.533 holeshot win.
Dave Dupps Jr’s C/EA won Competition Eliminator when Todd Frantz had problems in the final.
The colorful ride of Tony Fagnilli defeated Daria Vang in the top dragster final at 7.10 when Vang broke out.
Glen Butcher is the king of top sportsman. # 1 qualifier at 6.20 and coasted to a 6.31 win over a broken Jeff Brooks in the final.
Darian Boesch set top speed for top sportsman at a whopping 229.70.
Boesch was also the #1 qualifier in top dragster at 6.105.
Engine Builder Jamie Noonan led top alcohol dragster qualifying at 5.21.
The killer B’s paced the top alcohol funny car field at 5.487/265.43.
A couple of super stock veterans met in the final, with Pete D’Agnolo defeating Fred Bartoli.
