May 28, 2001 - Memorial Day Greetings. Greetings
to all my fellow veterans. Even if you don't get out to any activities
today, please take a moment to find a veteran among your friends, family,
or neighbors and say, "Thanks."
DraglistNo
doubt you have noticed the myriad of pop-up windows at Draglist.com lately. We
have dumped them all. Here's what went and why:
Recommend It was a neat idea. A
little button folks could click and then recommend the site to their pals.
Didn't work too well, but the button was small. THEN, without notice, they
started to pop up those "Win $10,000" ads in front of our page
when you logged in. Uh, 'bye...
Next up was the ALX "behind the
page" pop up. This is a great idea that's not ripe yet. The deal is
supposed to be like a link exchange -- for every page that pops up behind
ours, Draglist.com pops up behind another motorsports page somewhere. Problem
is, there aren't enough motorsports pages in the deal yet. So every time
the thing came up, there was no other motorsports page, just the light
blue ALX page selling the feature. Our page has been seen 208 times, but
ALX owes us over 10,000 displays on other sites! I pulled down the
pop up until they can start to catch up on our deficit a little bit and
actually pop up motorsports pages behind ours...!
100 Hot Auto Sites was a great deal
and I was very proud to have reached the 58th top auto site on the 'net
one week. We hovered between 60 to 90 for another few months here and
there. As neat as that program was, the 100 Hot folks have sold out and
now feature only the top 25 PAID sites, with no regard for ranking. I
figure you can find that stuff somewhere else, so the button is
GONE.
We also went the other way and added a
button... At the bottom of the page, the little blue Hit Boss
button beckons... It's basically a link exchange, like the Auto 1000
and Worldwide Racing 100 that appear there already. Check out those
sites for some good links to check out.
Anyway, that's where the clutter went. You
feel better already, don't you? I know I do. bp
