Drag Racing Story of the Day (1): IHRA Budds Creek: Janis and Wilson Soar To Top Qualifying Spots with Fastest Ever Marks. Larry Sullivan provides all the final pro qualifying results and first round pairings from the President's Cup. A 6.11 from Janis (and a 6.12 from Hahn) and a 6.53 from Gene Wilson -- WOW!

(2): Bazemore Sets National Funny Car Record to Lead NHRA Nationals Qualifying. Anthony Vestal provides all the final pro qualifying results and first round pairings from NHRA's return to Chicago. Both Bazemore and Force go 4.75 -- WOW!

Drag Racing Picture of the Day: Super Street Bikes on the Top End. Sharkman likes the bikes and this shot shows it -- two Super Street rides side by side at speed.

Drag Racing Movie of the Week: Fuel Funny Car Final at Shakey County. Sharkman had the composure to shoot this final round as one of the funnies came toward him.

Drag Racing Picture of the Day: Whit Bazemore in the Don Schumacher Matco Tools Firebird Funny Car. Ronnie Lahr got this great shot of the baddest dude in fuel funny car right now.

September 27, 2001 - Drag Racing Story of the Day: Jade Grenade Top Fueler Ready for the Dance at the CHRR. Pat Foster reports that the famed Jade Grenade has been reborn and is ready to shine at the California Hot Rod Reunion next weekend.

Drag Racing Picture of the Day: Rat Trap Fuel Altered on the Vegas Strip. Ed O'Connell caught the Goodguys race at Las Vegas last weekend and got this excellent shot of the Rat Trap leaving the line.

September 26, 2001 - Drag Racing Story of the Day: Goodguys: Haight Makes it Two Straight at Vegas. John Drummond and Summit FastNews team up to provide full final results from the Goodguys Nostalgia Drags as Las Vegas.

Drag Racing Picture of the Day: Gene Wilson's Cougar - 2001 IHRA Pro Stock World Champ. Ron Dilley caught Gene in Charles Hunt's "Don Smith Ford" 2000 Mercury Cougar Pro Stock car in April. Little did they know then that they would win the 2001 IHRA Mountain Motor crown. Congratulations, guys.

September 25, 2001 - Drag Racing Story of the Day: Highlights from the European 2001 FIA Finals. Draglist European editor Andrew Marrs sent along the high points of the recent FIA European finals, a race chock full of new European records.

Drag Racing Picture of the Day: 2002 Ford Thunderbird Top Sportsman Doorslammer. Tim Woods sent in this cool rendering of a blown, lemon yellow 2002 T-Bird.

September 24, 2001- Drag Racing Story of the Day: (1) IHRA Rockingham: Millican Breaks Garlits' Consecutive Win Record. Paula Motolik and Bobby Bennett provide final results from Rockingham, NC.

(2) Densham And Marnell Score First Career Victories at AutoZone Nationals; Bernstein cuts Dixon's Top Fuel points lead. Anthony Vestal brings us final results from Memphis. Congrats to Gary Densham and George Marnell on their first wins. Best wishes to our friend Jim Yates with hopes for a full recovery.

Drag Racing Picture of the Day: Farewell to Bobby Baldwin, Top Fuel Racer. We lost a good friend today as Bobby Baldwin passed away as a result of an aneurysm. Robert Briggs took this photo of Bobby at the 2000 World Finals.

September 23, 2001 - Drag Racing Story of the Day: (1) IHRA Rockingham: Millican Heads Into Finals With Number One Qualified Position. Larry Sullivan fills us in on final qualifying and first round results from The Rock.

(2) Dixon, Force, Yates Take No. 1 Qualifying Awards At AutoZone Nationals. Anthony Vestal fills us in on final qualifying and first round results from Memphis.

Drag Racing Picture of the Day: Del Worsham's New Autolite Spark Plug Funny Car? Rick Menges sent along this cool cartoon of a possible new power source for the CSK team.

Drag Racing Movie of the Week: Jessica Willard's Queen of Diamonds Jet Dragster. Stephen Jones got right in front of history's quickest and fastest female jet jockey as she lit up the Maryland countryside at MIR's Jet Car Nationals.

New Personal Best with Steve Klemetti. New driver, ET, and MPH updates from IHRA Norwalk and NHRA Indy. Steve Klemetti provides all the performance improvements from the biggest races of the year for each organization.

September 22, 2001 - Drag Racing Story of the Day: (1) IHRA Rockingham: Millican Makes Quickest Pass In IHRA History; Leads Qualifying In Top Fuel. Larry Sullivan fills us in on first day qualifying from The Rock in North Carolina.

(2) NHRA Memphis: Force, Dixon Among Qualifying Leaders Friday At Memphis Motorsports Park. Anthony Vestal fills us in on first day qualifying from Tennessee. 

Drag Racing Picture of the Day: Funny Cars: The Mongoose vs. Teacher's Pet Under the Lights! Ralph Reiter captured McEwen and Densham going for it at Seattle's 64 Funny Cars show in '83. You can almost smell the nitro in the air.

September 21, 2001 - Drag Racing Story of the Day: The Last Top Gas Title. Bill Duke tells of the travesty and comedy that ensued during the last round of competition in NHRA Top Gas Eliminator.

Drag Racing Picture of the Day: Classic '55 Chevy Drag Racer. Ralph "Gonzo" Crosby caught this outstanding '55 down in Florida. Man, talk about clean! Not one decal on the car.

September 20, 2001 - Drag Racing Story of the Day: Rollers 1970 (or how a Toyota will do in a pinch). Rich Gentili offers a funny tale of sportsman ingenuity gone somewhat awry in the early '70s.

Drag Racing Picture of the Day: Howard's Cams Twin Bear Gas Dragster in 1961. Pete Garramone grabbed this pit shot of the famous twin at Continental Divide Raceway in Colorado.

September 17, 2001 - Drag Racing Story of the Day: Bruce Mullins Racing Back on Track in Late 2001. Bruce Mullins fills us in on his efforts to chase Frank Manzo and the rest of the screw blower gang with a Roots-blown Federal Mogul Funny Car in NHRA Division One.

Drag Racing Picture of the Day: John Pusch's Plymouth Satellite Fuel Funny Car. Jim White took this pit shot of one of the top Southwestern fuel funny cars of the '70s.

September 16, 2001 - Drag Racing Story of the Day: Klavon and Lindle Brothers take World Series Titles. Cordova Dragway provides the sportsman results from the 48th World Series of Drag Racing.

Drag Racing Picture of the Day: Estrus Racing Nostalgia Digger Pulls the Chutes at Bakersfield. Jim Sorenson grabbed this great top end chute shot of the super looking Estrus Racing dragster at the 2001 March Meet.

Drag Racing Movie of the Week: Northwest Rats -- Chevy Funny Car Burnouts. Brent Ogonoski grabs video captures for the neat Northwest Funny Car Association and got this cool side by side burnout clip.

September 15, 2001 - Drag Racing Story of the Day: Let's Level the Playing Field for Redlight Starts. Steve Taylor has a better idea for redlight starts -- a "first or worst" rule, just like breakouts.

Drag Racing Picture of the Day: Jim and Tammy Medley's Jet Steam Dragster. James Morgan sent in this great shot of the Maryland jet dragster warming up the fans on a chilly night.

September 14, 2001 - Drag Racing Story of the Day: Goodguys' WCS Series Picks Up Where it Left Off in Las Vegas. John Drummond fills us on the Goodguys nostalgia drags circuit as it returns for a big September 22-23 bash in Vegas.

Drag Racing Picture of the Day: Bayou Mopar - Plymouth Duster Bracket Bomber. Eddie Stears joins our gang of contributors with a nice wheels up shot of a Louisiana Mopar.

September 13, 2001 - Drag Racing Story of the Day: Boris Murray: The First Fuel Bike Superstar. Boris Murray checks in with a history of his top fuel motorcycle that set numerous records in the 1960s and 1970s.

Drag Racing Picture of the Day: Mark Mahood's 1969 Camaro A/Gasser. Dawn Mazi sent in another outstanding nostalgia shot from Bakersfield, this one of Mark Mahood's relatively late model blown gasser.

September 12, 2001 - Our deepest sympathies to the friends and families of the victims of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington yesterday.

Drag Racing Story of the Day: Hot Times in Spokane: The 2001 AHRA World Finals. David Hapgood covered the 2001 version of the AHRA World Finals for us. He sent along this great story and a number of great photos as well, but we've lost our scanner computer. We will rerun this story with the photos as soon as we can get them scanned.

September 11, 2001 - Drag Racing Story of the Day: The Chicken Choker Chronicles: Englishtown Part 2: Performance -- Good! Driver -- Good! Luck -- Bad! Len Cottrell and Tim Slagle wrapped up the 2001 NHRA Division 1 points battle at Englishtown this past weekend. It didn't go totally their way, but the season was a success.

Drag Racing Picture of the Day: Wild Bill Howry Hammers the Loud Pedal -- Outlaw Fuel Altered. Chris Graves caught the southwest blown fuel veteran scaring the locals at Texas Raceway.

September 03, 2001 - Drag Racing Story of the Day: Pedregon Wins $100,000 Budweiser Shootout; Garlits Records 300 Mph Speed At Mac Tools U.S. Nationals. NHRA.com reports that Big Daddy Does it! He went 4.72 at 303 to hit both goals and to qualify for Indy, to boot. Frank Pedregon out finessed the rest of the funnies to win the $100,000 Big Bud shootout. Plus all pro qualifying results and Monday pairings.

Drag Racing Picture of the Day: Bobby Tapia Displays 1962 Roll Cage Technology. Steve Gibbs shows us another reason that racers had to -- as Pat Foster puts it -- "sit low."

September 02, 2001 - Drag Racing Story of the Day: Gann Wins Holley Dominator Duel For Pro Stock Bikes; Bazemore Leads Record Assault At Mac Tools U.S. Nationals. NHRA.com provides all the action from qualifying day two at Indy. Bazemore goes 4.75 at 325... WOW!
