BUDDS CREEK , MD – LET THE BATTLES BEGIN. The tension is building. The warriors are honing their weapons and practicing their skills preparing for the upcoming fight. This first skirmish will truly be a battle of the GLADIATORS. For the first time in many years, the NEOPMA will be blending the classes with a mixed field of blower, turbo and nitrous cars into one giant altercation of 16 super-fast Pro Mod racers. These warriors will be bringing their killer horse power engines, sleek chassied racecars, and strategies to the front of the battle.
For those racers who need to get the cobwebs out, there is a daytime track rental test session on Friday, April 20th and then Friday night a test and tune session to sharpen their weaponry and get their mind set for the upcoming fight. On Saturday, the skirmishes get started with three qualifying rounds. The first battle begins on Sunday at HIGH NOON with BLOWER Warriors matching their screaming horse power against the cunning and guile of the NITROUS and TURBO Gladiators.
The battle ground is set at the smooth, killer fast track… MARYLAND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY. The blower and turbo cars are strutting their 3000+ horse power war machines with confidence that almost borders on arrogance while the nitrous challengers are feeling cocky with their new Reher-Morisson or Fulton cannons. The turbo guys are just anxious to begin the fight and are quietly sitting back, waiting for their turn to burn the blower and nitrous cars to kingdom come. Here are some of the comments that we didn’t have to “BLEEP OUT”:
Matt Deitsch, nitrous 2012 points champion, said, “I can’t wait to put those noisy lawn mowers on their trailers. Now that I have lightened the car and added my new 865 CI engine, I feel confident that I can kick some butt.” Some of the other super fast war machine drivers have their adrenalin pumping as well. Fred Scriba is ready to retake his number one points championship title back and said, “My team is looking forward to putting a real hurtin’ to the turbo and blower guys. I have been waiting a long time to get those blower guys.”
Gary Courtier snuck away with Shannon and came back home with a big smile and only one comment, “Watch out, we are ready for all comers. Nitrous, blowers and turbos… get ready to get your asses whipped!” George Williams, Vinny Budano and Vinny DiMieri are anxious to burn bullet holes in the armoire of the Blower/Turbo tanks with their new 5.3 bore-spaced power plants. George said, “Last year on our first full pass in the car we went a 6:03. This year we expect to win the Championship with consistent 5:90-6:00 and can’t wait to stage next to Scriba, O’Hare and Deitsch.” Quietly, Isaias Rojas from Puerto Rico said, “I simply expect to win many times against the racer/warriors of the NEOPMA.”
Gentleman Tim O’Hare – being the easy going guy that he is – simply said, “Bring on these nitrous cars. They shouldn’t be any real competition, at least not for my team. They talk the talk, but can they walk the walk?” Steve Drummond can’t wait to inflict wounds on the competing gladiators with his new secret tune-up and said, “My 5:95 pass last year was only the beginning. Look out Tim, Matt, Steve, Fred and others… I’m gunning for you.”
Gerry Capano said that he now has the experience to step up the wick and hopes to be in the winner’s circle a lot. Mark Pullen and Larry Plummer are anxious to take on the nitrous cars as easy prey. Eric Latino and Bill Lutz both just laughed and commented, “The real competition for blower/turbo cars are other blower/turbo cars. Nitrous cars are easy passes for us.” Eric also said, “I’m coming down from Canada to put a real hurtin’ on you Yankees.” In the meantime, Jim Bersani is secretly testing a new combination that he expects to be VERY, VERY competitive.
WOW!!! Bigger engines, secret tune-ups, new chassis, foreign invaders, real rivalry, lots of trash talk, fast cars, super fast track… WHAT A WAY TO START A RACECAR WAR! MAKE SURE YOU GET TO MIR FOR THIS RACE ON APRIL 21 & 22. Check the MIR website www.mirdrag.com for more details.
