(05-13-2014) Mechanicsville, MD – Spring 2014 has been extremely unpredictable in the Northeast to say the least, and the Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association [NEOPMA], like many other Associations and Series, had one of their events cancelled due to weather. This was the second year in a row this event was rained out.
Our second point’s event of the season, “The Mountain Motor Nationals” scheduled for May 9th-10th had forecasts for scattered thunderstorms. Saturday morning’s weather looked promising, but at noon it started to rain. This rain persisted on and off, and after a period of no rain, the track was dried and ready to go, then it started raining again at 3:00 PM and the forecast looked bleak. Royce Miller and his great team at Maryland International Raceway tried their best, but it was not meant to be. With respect to Mother’s Day Sunday, MIR and NEOPMA chose not to make Sunday a makeup race day.
NEOPMA would like to extend a huge thank you to Royce Miller and Team at MIR for attempting to get the event in and completed.
As with any other outdoor motorsport event, weather dictates attendance and car counts. Today’s economy and weather has created hesitance. Before teams move, weather checks will dictate when and if they start down the road to an event. Weather, economy and high fuel prices spares nobody, from the Race Teams to the Tracks, to the Supporters. The one positive is the loyalty of many of the teams and tracks, as many teams show up even in inclement weather forecasts. We look forward to a great rest of the year with awesome events, more Pro Mods, and improved weather.
Next up for the NEOPMA is “Pro Mod Thunder on the Hill” May 30th and 31st at the “New Capitol Raceway” in Crofton Maryland. This event will feature Pro Mods of many makes and models vying for the top prize and points lead.
