THE “FLAG START” YEARS – KOHLER DRAGWAY 1955 to 1963

CAYUGA, ON (April 17, 2026) – Celebrate the launch of ‘The Flag Start Years – Kohler Dragway 1955 to 1963′ at Shelly’s Family Dining and Catering, 1192 Kohler Road, Cayuga, Ontario—just down the road from the drag strip. Drop by on Friday, April 24, 2026, between 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. to pick up your pre-ordered copy and meet the author.

The “Flag Start” Years – Kohler Dragway 1955 to 1963 is Tim Sykes’ latest book. This 428-page book has first-hand accounts from racing pioneers and imagery courtesy of drag historian Rob Potter. Relive the excitement through rare memorabilia and a vivid timeline capturing the thrilling beginnings from 70 years ago!

If you’ve ever been to the drag strip, watched the action and thought to yourself, “How did this ever begin?”, now is your opportunity to learn how it all happened. Members of the Brantford Piston Pushers Car Club, in the 1950s, built one of the first dragsters in Ontario, powered by a flathead Ford. The Piston Pushers were instrumental in founding the Ontario Timing Association, which, in turn, helped start Kohler Dragway, and will be among the special guests on hand. The “Flag Start” Years’ historic record finally tells the long-overdue story of drag racing’s earliest days in Cayuga. This is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of drag racing in Ontario.

The book includes a foreword by Bruce F. Mehlenbacher, written on behalf of the Mehlenbacher Family. “We invite attendees to bring their own stories, photographs, or memorabilia from the early days of Kohler Dragway to share with fellow enthusiasts. Your memories can help make this launch a true celebration of our community’s rich racing history,” said Bruce Mehlenbacher.
Books pre-ordered by March 31 will be available for pickup. To order a copy, email Tim for ordering details.
